Tips for the 2018 Diversity Visa program (DV-2018)

*For DV-2018, natives of a few countries, including Bangladesh and Nigeria, are NOT eligible to apply, because more than 50,000 natives of those countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years*

>> Please be aware of a new requirement to submit a recent photograph that has been taken within six months. Entries with duplicate photo submissions from the previous DV year (DV-2017) will be disqualified.

>> Do not use the browser supplied navigation – Back, Forward or Refresh. Please only use the buttons that are part of the application (they are blue).

>> There is a 60 minute timeout for filling out an entry from Begin Entry to Submit. Gather all information first, then keep in mind that the timeout will prevent the entry from completing after an hour.

>> Make sure to use a neutral background, remove all hats and eyeglasses and make sure to use a recent photo.

>> If you do not receive a confirmation number, it is safe to submit your entry again. If it is a duplicate, the system will tell you, and will prevent that duplicate from being entered. Do not hit submit again if you are alerted that this is a duplicate entry.

>> Please submit your entry at least several days before the end of the entry period (November 7) in order to be sure that system problems won’t prevent you from getting your entry in. The last 3 days are typically the busiest days – avoid them!

>> If you don’t get a confirmation number, but are told that the 2nd entry is duplicate, when Entrant Status Check is available on May 2nd, there is a way to find your confirmation number to get your status. You will need the exact name, birth date, and email address that you entered into the Entry form.
